From the Senior Minister


Welcome to the First United Methodist Church of Decatur, Alabama.  Decatur First, the historic mother church of the community, is a warm, friendly and vibrant congregation.


I am especially excited about our future together and hope you will consider becoming part of our community of faith.


First Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the country.  Whether you are looking at the wonderful stained glass windows, listening to the marvelous music coming from a beautiful organ or walking through one of our new buildings or newly remodeled areas, everything at First Church announces the living presence of God.


People often wonder...What is the church like?  What will I discover there?  What kind of people attend?  Will I be welcome? And what does the church believe?  All good questions to be sure, and to that end I offer the following...


At First Church you will find a loving, caring, compassionate congregation, the kind of people more interested in accepting rather than judging you.

 

At First Church you will find a congregation that believes in the love of God revealed to the world in the remarkable life of Jesus Christ.

 

At First Church you will find encouragement to use both your mind and heart when it comes to a dynamic faith in God.

 

At First Church you will find a place that will not give easy, cliched answers about God, but a community where questions are honored and people are encouraged to think and feel and discover their personal faith.  You will find a Sunday School Class for all ages here that will encourage and guide you in your faith journey.

 

At First Church you will find lovely, inspiring music, dignified and yet vital services of worship and preaching that will inspire your journey of faith.

 

At First Church you will find a congregation with an illustrious history, parts of which reach back to the founding of this city, but also a congregation ready to move into the future in service to the world.

 

At First Church you will find a home, a place of worship, a place that will inspire and encourage you.  We want you to become a part of the FIRST FAMILY OF FAITH!


Whether you are a member or a visitor, I hope to see you at First Church this Sunday.  Our Worship Services are at 8:45 am (Blended Worship) and 11:00 am (Traditional Worship).  And of course, if I can be of help to you in anyway, please do not hesitate to contact me.
