Join Us As We Grow!

In September, 2008, First church Completed a 9,000 square foot addition to our historic building.  This addition includes a 4,300 square foot Fellowship Hall with 1,300 square feet of food service area and two upper floors which house eight classroom and a large conference room named in honor of our senior pastors.  Most of our adult Sunday school classes now meet in this new wing, with the Board of Stewards meetings and other functions held in the Minister's Conference Room.  The new Wesley Fellowship Hall (named for the founder of Methodism) provides a beautiful and spacious room to host our Wednesday night meals and fellowship.

In phase two of this massive project, 6,000 square feet of existing space was renovated, including our former fellowship hall into an updated administrative wing.  Completed in December 2008, we now have a Courtyard Reception Center which is the main entrance to the church during the work week, a large Welcome Center, and eight offices.  Also part of the renovation is a sacristy (storage for paraments and sacred elements), a flower room, and a relocated and newly refurbished bride's room.  Other new additions are an Archive Room to safely store items of historical significance, and a Courtyard Conference Room available for meetings and classes.

The church campus has been beautified by 1,935 square feet of open covered porches and a portico.  A Columbarium was built in the Fall of 2008 to offer a resting place for cremains of First Church members.  The bank of windows in the new fellowship hall, the lighted cross and flame on the side of the new wing, and a three-tiered fountain have attracted much favorable attention from the Old Decatur community.  The three tiers of the fountain represent the Holy Trinity while the water itself symbolizes the Living Water that Christ provides.  Many have commented on how beautiful our new addition is, and have thanked us for making the investment in the downtown community.  We at First Church feel that our new larger facility places us in a favorable position to serve the ministry needs of the Decatur community for years to come.
