Who We Are... Our youth group consists of many different youth from the Decatur area. We have at least 8 different schools represented in our Junior and Senior High groups. We have home schooled youth as well as public and private school youth. On any given Wednesday night we have between 20-60 youth from a variety of churches. On Sunday nights we have 30-60 youth who are mostly members of our church. Like most youth groups, we like to fellowship and eat together. We also enjoy bible study, discussions and retreats. We have several fundraisers a year to help cut back on costs of mission trips. Each summer our Junior High and Senior High groups go away for a week on mission trips. Along with our mission trips, our youth participate in local service and mission projects as well. If you are not a member of a youth group in Decatur, we hope you will come visit us for youth! Meeting Information... Our youth meet several times a week for study, fellowship, food and fun! On Sunday mornings we meet from 9:45-10:45am for Sunday school. On the occasional 5th Sunday, we eat breakfast together at a restaurant or on the third floor. On Sunday nights we meet at 6:00pm for brown bag supper. This is where the youth can bring a sack dinner from home or stop by fast food on their way to youth. We'll have time to hang out and eat until UMYF begins. Following supper at 6:30, we have UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) where we participate in a variety of activities. Some activities might be games, programs, small groups, worship, joint activities with other churches, scavenger hunts, pool parties, movies or anything else we can get into! On Wednesday nights, our church has First Fellowship dinner for the congregation at 5:00pm. Following dinner at 6:00pm, the Junior High play games and have bible study. At 6:15pm the Senior High also meet for bible study and discussion. Each month during school, our youth join with Central UMC's youth for a prayer breakfast. The Senior High meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:45am at Central. The Junior High meet on the third Thursday morning of each month and rides are provided to Oak Park Middle School. The Senior High meet at 7:15am at Hardee's on 7th Street on the remaining Thursday mornings of the month for a prayer and devotion before school.
Our Mission... Growing In Christ! Sharing God's Love! This is our church's mission. The youth strive to follow this mission as well. In all we do, we hope to grow in our relationship with Christ and each other and share God's love while growing. |
